Amazing things can happen...
So it's about one hundred degrees outside, but there's just enough humidity that it doesn't feel so bad. Not like sitting in an oven. Rather pleasent actually. I decide to enjoy life a little and take myself for a walk. There are very few things I like better than taking a walk, smoking a cigarette and enjoying a beautiful sunset at the close of a gorgeous day. The sun is just falling behind Mt. Charleston and dusk is beginning to settle in. This is absolutely my favorite time of day. There is just the sweetest feeling all around. As I'm walking down the street I nonchalantly give my dying cigarette a flick toward the street. Now what happens from this point on is absolutely mind boggling. As my cigarette flips end over end into the street, a car passes. I notice that inside in the front is a nice looking older couple. In the back is an even older woman breathing oxygen through a tube. The problem here is that her back window is cracked open a little, and wouldn't you know it, my cigarette goes right into the window. Just as I'm sitting there with a mixed feeling of horror that my cigarette went into their car, and amazement that I was able to do that without even looking, I see that the old woman starts panicking and brushing at herself wildly to extinguish the now flaming cigarette. As you may be aware, oxygen and open flames are far too good of friends. The car starts swerving around as everyone in the car begins to panic. The next thing to happen is not entirely unamazing. The now fully fanned flame, catches the womans dress on fire, then, blows open the oxygen tank. The old woman in the backseat literally blows up. You may also be aware that an exploding oxygen tank is far from a controlled explosion. As well as going up, the explosion goes down. Right to the gas tank. The entire car goes up with a bang. Car parts and flaming people are flying all around me in the most amazing color of flame. All of this happens before I can say oops. I casually glance around to see if anyone noticed that I may have been the cause of this surreal if not tragic event, but no one even glances my way...for which of course I am eternally grateful. (How's that for culling a phrase from my mormon background.) I hear screams, and cries and shouts of what happened, and think to myself that the best thing for me to do is, naturally, join the shouting and asking. The last thing I need is to have to explain that I just blew up three old people and a car. I have to work in the morning. But in the end...don't let anyone tell you that smoking doesn't kill.
